A SEAHORSE DOCUMENTARY

This is my first experience producing and directing a documentary entirely on my own. It all started with a story I fell in love with the moment I first heard about it. I remember thinking that perhaps this was the right time to take the leap and make my first film.

At the heart of this story are two things that have always been part of my life: the Mediterranean Sea, where I was born, and seahorses, creatures I have always been fascinated by and feel a special affection for.

Throughout our lives, we come across different perspectives, questions and debates that challenge the way we see things. In this story, that conversation takes place between conservation and fishing, brought to life through Alba and Andrea. Two women with different perspectives and experiences, but connected by the same sea.

I started working on this documentary around a year and a half ago. Working on a project like this largely on my own has been a learning experience, with challenges that I am sure will help me grow and shape the way I approach future projects. But it has also brought moments and experiences I know I will never forget.

I hope this film becomes something honest and personal. A piece through which I can share my connection to the sea I grew up alongside, my affection for these remarkable creatures, and the importance of telling stories like this one. I want to bring all of this together through a compelling story and a cinematography that reflects who I am and the way I see the world.

Through this story, I reflect many of the thoughts and feelings I have had as a person throughout my life.I see the importance of giving a voice to those who deserve it, and above all, to all living beings who lack one.

Documentary pieces give us a great opportunity to explore, from a subjective and creative perspective, the reality that surrounds us. It fulfills me as a professional to give a voice to what is small and apparently invisible, in a project with such a human background.

The voice of this story

In this story, María Luisa will be the voice of the Mediterranean Sea, the narrator of the tale. Through her voice, we will come to know, in the first person, its current state and that of the beings that inhabit it, especially the seahorse. She will guide us in the encounter between Andrea and Alba, reminding us that balance is necessary, even when the sea gives more than it receives.

WHERE WE ARE

WHERE WE ARE

WHERE WE ARE

As of autumn 2026, most of the filming and production work is complete, and the documentary has now entered post-production.

At this stage, my main goal is to secure additional funding to support some of the remaining post-production work and, above all, to help bring the film to audiences through distribution and the festival circuit.

I am also looking to connect with potential partners and collaborators who would like to be part of this final stage and help bring the project to completion.

SCREENINGS

SCREENINGS

I believe there is no better way to show an issue than through images. Screenings are a great opportunity to bring local people together, especially those who may not be familiar with these challenges, and help raise awareness about them.

FILM FESTIVALS

FILM FESTIVALS

One of my goals is to submit this film to important festivals focused on ocean conservation and the natural world. It is an extra motivation to create a documentary that can stand out both for its story and its cinematography.

STREAMING PLATFORMS

STREAMING PLATFORMS

Once completed, my goal is to find a streaming platform where the documentary can reach a wider audience and share this story with people around the world.
